Indicia/Colophon Publisher Name

Definition: The name of the actual official company or person who publishes comic books. This is often found in the legally required small print (indicia) in comics from the U.S. and some other countries.

Notes:

  • Indexers should NOT use the informal name used name of the publisher.
  • Indexers should enter the publisher name as it appears in the indicia of a comic (the small print which is usually on the first page) when available or the most official available source (such as the title page of a book).
  • Indexers should use the name (or names) of the the person (or people) who self-publish.
  • Indexers should NOT use the copyright information.
  • Indexers should use the complete name of the publisher. These names often include words such as "Publications", "Comics", "Company", and even "Inc." and "S.A."
  • Indexers should use the shortened version of a publisher name when it is listed as a division of another company. The shortened name does not include the name of the parent company.

* DC Comics, Inc
* DC Comics
* National Comics Publications, Inc.
* Pantheon Books (when the indicia reads "Pantheon Books, a division of Random House, Inc.")
