NOTE: The format and timing of Data Distribution is currently under discussion. Take all information here with a "grain of salt".

What is the Data Distribution?

The GCD strives to make its data as available as possible. Along with the website, we also make the raw data that makes up the credits in the GCD available on a semi-regular basis.

The current archive of raw data, with full SQL schema documents for MySQL, are available at: http://dev.comics.org/data/.

What is the format?

Please see the Current Schema page. It is distributed as a .zip file for MySql data plus an uncompressed .sql file for the schema.

How do I get it?

Email [email protected] to get on the list.

With the release of the "Vieux Bois" (v0.2) version of GCD in early December, 2009, there is no further need for beta releases of the data build. Though, these distributions used to be available from: http://www.comics.org/beta/GCDData.gz (link no longer valid).

How often is it updated?

The live data on the website is updated constantly, the data dump is done inconsistently.

What rights does the GCD retain? What rights do I have?

To be updated.

How should I credit the GCD?

To be updated.

Can I get all the covers?

No. We don't claim any copyright on the covers or the scans. If we were to allow easy access to the covers, it might be seen as "distribution", which is where copyright gets sticky. If you would like to download each one individually, that is ok. Please give credit to the GCD wherever you use them. Also, please do not link directly to the covers, as this "leaches" bandwidth from our site and can cause us instability.
