In addition to the general credit formatting rules, the following apply specifically to the pencils field.

  • Required for Comic Story or Cover sequences, Optional on all other types of sequences
  • The primary artist on the feature. This generally includes layouts and full pencils, and should be noted if it doesn't.
  • Painted artwork is noted in the Pencils, Inks and Colorist fields as "Artist (painting)" in each field.
  • Photographs are noted in the Pencils, Inks and Colorist fields as "Artist (photograph)" in each field. Color, two and three-color photographs are credited in the pencil, inks, and colors fields. Black and White photographs are credited in the pencil and inks fields.
  • NOTE: At this time "painted", "painting", "paints", and "painter" all exist in the database. Because "paint" is a part of all four forms, this can be standardized at a future date and there is no need to change one form to another at this time.
  • NOTE: At this time "photo" and "photograph" both exist in the database. Because "photo" is a part of both forms, this can be standardized at a future date and there is no need to change one form to another at this time.
