Per a [http://www.comics.org/voting/ballot/181/ Policy Vote] of July 19, 2013, there is now a field at the Series level field for Publication Type. The purpose is to succinctly describe the publication format for user reference, such as 'book', 'magazine', or 'album'.  At this time, only these three terms are allowed in the field, and they will display in a drop-down when editing a Series.  Future votes may add other popular names.

The purpose of the Publication Type field at the Series level is to succinctly describe the publication format for user reference, such as 'book', 'magazine', or 'album'. At this time, only these three terms are allowed in the field, and they will display in a drop-down when editing a Series. In some places in the database, they will display with the abbreviations "[b]", "[m]", or "[a]". Though no precise definition has yet been adopted for these, 'book' generally refers to hardcover, glued and stitched items, 'magazine' generally refers to softcover, stapled items, and 'album' generally refers to cardstock covered, squarebound items. Future votes may add other popular names and improve definitions.
