March 31, 1994 GCD is founded Tim Stroup's original announcement for the GCD first appeared on the Usenet group rec.arts.comics.misc. Founders included Bob Klein and Jon Ingersoll. Over the next several years, both the Grand Comics Database and the Grand Comic Book Database are used synonymously by the membership.
April 27, 1995 First Website Tim Stroup announces the first GCD website hosted by Digital Marketing at digimark.net. The web site would move at least once more before finding a permanent home.
October 29, 1996 Permanent Website registered Jon Lovstad registers www.comics.org creating the first GCD web site.
November 30, 2000 Charter adopted & first Board of Directors elected A press release from the GCD announces the adoption of the GCD Charter and the election of the first Board of Directors: Will Allred, Ray Bottorff Jr, Mike Catron, Lionel English (Chairman), Lou Mazzella (Secretary), Mike Rhode, Tony Rose, Tim Stroup & Maurizio Villotta. The GCD "officially" becomes the Grand Comic Book Database.
July 24, 2002 Online Indexing begins Matthias Hofmann officially announces the Grand Opening of the GCD Online Index. Ray Bottorff Jr sends out a press release announces the online indexing 11 November 2002 after several months of continued testing.
January 2007 100,000 Comics Indexed! A press release from members Mike Catron and Ray Bottorff Jr announces that the GCD Passes 100,000 Mark.
April 17, 2007 Grand Comicbook Database Foundation is incorporated Tony Rose incorporated the Grand Comicbook Database Foundation as a non-profit 501(c)(3) in Little Rock, Pulaski County, State of Arkansas in the United States of America. The Foundation exists for the purpose of supporting the Grand Comicbook Database Project and to support the scholarly study of comic books arts and for such purposes as further that mission.
December 25, 2009 The GCD name returns to Grand Comics Database Member Lionel English announces the results of a special election to amend the GCD Charter.
October 18, 2010 300,000 Comic Covers! A press release from member Mike Catron announces that GCD Contributors Make 300,000 Comic Book Covers Available Online.
