'''The Eagle Awards''' are the name given to a series of awards for comic book titles and creators. They are awarded by UK fans voting for work produced during the previous year, for who they feel are the best in each category of the awards.

==History==

Originated in 1976 thanks to two British fans, '''Mike Conroy''' and '''Richard Burton''', it was named after the 1950s and 60's UK comic '''Eagle''' because the Eagle symbol was perceived (as described by Burton) to stand "for a standard of quality ... seldom reached", the Eagle Awards were so-called with official blessing from '''IPC'''.

An initial ballot formed a list of nominees, from which the voting ballot was created and disseminated in the same manner. From 1983 to 1984, the revised Awards included separate UK and US sections. The 1986 Eagles also saw the introduction of a "free vote... rather than pre-selected nominees," creating a "fairer reflection of fans' opinions, and some anomalous results especially in the Roll of Honor category.

It wasn’t until Britain had a regular annual comic convention (the '''United Kingdom Comic Art Convention''', commonly shortened to '''UKCAC''') in 1986 that the awards became a regular event. The awards did disappear for a time, replaced briefly with the National Comics Award, in 2000 they returned as an event at that years Comic Festival (which had replaced UKCAC) presented by Simon Pegg.

'''Cassandra Conroy''' took over the running of the Eagle Awards from her father in 2008 when she was only 16.

The Eagle Awards was renamed first as '''''The Stan Lee Eagle Awards''''' and then '''The True Believers Comic Awards''' in 2014.

The Eagle Awards are the name given to a series of awards for comic book titles and creators. They are awarded by UK fans voting for work produced during the previous year, for who they feel are the best in each category of the awards.

History

Originated in 1976 thanks to two British fans, Mike Conroy and Richard Burton, it was named after the 1950s and 60's UK comic Eagle because the Eagle symbol was perceived (as described by Burton) to stand "for a standard of quality ... seldom reached", the Eagle Awards were so-called with official blessing from IPC.

It wasn’t until Britain had a regular annual comic convention (the United Kingdom Comic Art Convention, commonly shortened to UKCAC) in 1986 that the awards became a regular event. The awards did disappear for a time, replaced briefly with the National Comics Award, in 2000 they returned as an event at that years Comic Festival (which had replaced UKCAC) presented by Simon Pegg.

Cassandra Conroy took over the running of the Eagle Awards from her father in 2008 when she was only 16.

The Eagle Awards was renamed first as The Stan Lee Eagle Awards and then The True Believers Comic Awards in 2014.
