* A surrogate publisher is one which publishes product for another publisher in name only, generally during a time of paper restrictions (i.e., World War II).  The surrogate is usually listed as the publisher of record in the indicia, though the other publisher was responsible for the financing, production, printing, and distribution of the product.
* A "surrogate" was a publisher during World War II, that published comics on behalf of the "real" publisher.  This was done because newsprint rationing put restrictions on how much the regular publisher could print.
