- The Surrogate checkbox should be checked if the Indicia Publisher is identified as a surrogate publisher.
- A "surrogate" was a publisher during World War II, that published comics on behalf of the "real" publisher. This was done because newsprint rationing put restrictions on how much the regular publisher could print.
