Another great site is the late Jerry Bails' Who's Who site:Who's Who online. There you can search for creators, features, publishers in a more general way than the specific info you find at the GCD. Be sure to read the FAQ there for helpful searching hints.

Having trouble trying to find a date for a comic book that doesn't list one or only lists the copyright date, which may or may not be right? If you have a U.S. comic book going back to 1991, you maybe able to find the original release date of the comic book to enter into the date field as [December 9, 1998] instead. And the best place to look is Charles LePage's ComicList site which goes back to late February 1991: http://www.comiclist.com/

His site maintains a complete list of his ComicList released items emails going back until then--and it has a search engine of its own. I found them valuable to help figure out what Avalon Communications/ACG passes off as publications dates (which is often no date listed). Unlike old Capital or Diamond ordering catalogs, the ComicList only listed comic books that actually were shipping that week.

I'm wondering if the GCD would be interested in an official partnership with Serieframjandet (the Swedish Comic Book Association)? I'm a member both here and there (as is Per Sandell, one of the editors, and some of the other Swedish indexers).

Our association has existed since 1968, we arrange conventions, lectures, publish our own magazine Bild & Bubbla 4 times a year (we also do a Norwegian version called Tegn), have our own maling lists and forums, publish book about comics, and publish actual comics by aspiring young artists. We are presently developing our new website at http://www.serieframjandet.se, where we are working on a Swedish comicbook wikipedia and online publication of all reviews done for our magazine since 1968 (not online yet).

Jerry Bail's Who's Who in American Comics - a listing of creators working in U.S. comics up to the year 2000. Creators' work is listed by publisher and feature that they worked on. Useful for narrowing down possibilities for unknown artists prior to 2000. Be sure to read the FAQ there for helpful searching hints.

ComicList - a source for release dates for U.S. comic books from 1991 to present. Useful for adding keydates to publications without indicia dates.

I.N.D.U.C.K.S. - a free database of Disney comics throughout the world. Useful for finding creator and reprint information for Disney comics. When using information from their site make sure to cite them: "The data presented here is based on information from the freely available Inducks database." and list their website URL with the citation.
