Publications that Don't Qualify for Inclusion in the GCD

The GCD has several rules about what qualifies for inclusion (need reference).

Frequently, we get questions about why certain types of publications or even specific publications are not included.

Below is a list of some of those publications that keep coming up, and the reasoning why they do not qualify for inclusion.

Categories of Publications

Big Little Books

• Reasons: Not in comic book format; not sequential comic art (instead prose text with illustrations)

Coloring Books

• Reasons: Most are not sequential comic art (instead a panel with a caption underneath)

• Note: Some do qualify, especially if they contain word balloons

Comic-Related Posters or Postcards

• Reasons: Not sequential comic art (instead a single image), even if it reprints a cover; Not in comic book format

Web Comics

• Reasons: Not in any sort of physical book

• Note: Some do qualify when they are collected as books, such as Bayou (DC, 2009 series).

Specific Titles

Batman and Me (by Bob Kane)

• Reasons: Not comics (although it does contain some comic reprints, most of the book is biographic text with illustrations)

• Reasons: Not sequential comic art (instead a catalog); Not in comic book format

• Reasons: Not sequential comic art (contains blank pages to be used as a scrapbook)

Motion Picture Funnies Weekly

• Reasons: Not published, though covers produced
